About Me
I am so glad you have found me! My name is Dana. I love people and I love Jesus! I was born and raised in a Christian home in California where I also raised my now-grown children. I surrendered my life to Jesus at age 12, and ever since then, I have always had a heart for God and His Word, teaching, mentoring, discipling, missions, and caring for the hurting. I am a credentialed K-8 teacher, teaching over the years in public schools and homeschooling, as well as tutoring and serving as a consultant/coach for other homeschool parents; I was a Children’s Ministry Director for 25 years and worked in Youth Ministry discipling teens and young adults on and off for 40 years; I have led adult Bible Studies; I enjoy developing curriculum and writing; as a hotline counselor for a crisis pregnancy center, I was able to come alongside women in crisis pregnancies and post-abortive women; I served with orphans in Guatemala; and I currently serve as the Vice President for Whole Foundation Foster Care & Adoption Center of Excellence, providing holistic, broad spectrum, integrative support and treatment for these at-risk kids and their families…family and placement protection through crisis prevention.
As for my qualifications as a Life Coach and Biblical Counselor, I am certified through the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) in:
Biblical Counseling & Psychology
Professional Life Coaching
Dr. Amen’s Brain Health Coaching
Youth Mental Health Coaching
AACC/NICAMB Trauma Informed Coaching
But I believe my greatest education and qualification has been earned in the school of suffering. It’s not just head knowledge…I’ve been tried and tested, so it’s heart and soul knowledge. I have walked the road of pain and loss in more than one area of life, so what I share is what I have already personally tested and found to be true and reliable. I have a special heart for divorce recovery, for those navigating and rebuilding after trauma or betrayal, for hurting children and youth, for those dealing with parenting challenges including children of trauma and estrangement from adult children, for those struggling with chronic pain, illness, disability, or infertility, for those affected by church hurt or spiritual abuse, for caregivers, for education, and for those navigating the unique challenges of leading in ministry. I have a passion for discipleship, apologetics, and pursuing truth, whether intellectual, emotional, or spiritual. And I love to encourage others that God can and does REDEEM those hard places! We can and do find purpose in our challenges. There is hope not only to survive, but to thrive!
Prayer and scripture are my chief sources of wisdom and guidance, but years of experience and the latest neuroscience research and psychological theories that do not contradict a sound biblical worldview also inform my practice. While I am always reading, taking more courses, and keeping up with the latest research, I am not a licensed therapist, nor do I make diagnoses. My chief focus is life coaching, biblical counseling, soul care, and growth, individually or in Growth Groups, drawing from deep toolboxes of wisdom in the midst of life’s challenges. We are integrated beings made in the image of God, so caring for the whole person is vital. All is interconnected—mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. If needed, I will help guide you to the experts in whatever arises that is outside of my level of expertise, providing competency-based referrals as needed. If I am a good fit for you, I look forward to partnering with you on your journey of discovery, growth, healing, and redemption!
The Redeem Approach
“…be transformed by the renewal of your mind…” Romans 12:2
Life is a journey, isn’t it? As fellow travelers, our journeys through this beautiful but broken world may look different, but we all have this in common: our paths from birth to death will take us through mountains of joy and hope, valleys of sadness and despair, gardens of beauty and fruitfulness, deserts of pain and loss, sunny days of peace, contentment, and victory, or raging storms of fear, temptation, and failure. While this may seem dire, it is also a source of hope and an encouragement to remember that you are not alone…there are those who have walked this road ahead of you, who can reach out a hand and help chart a course of healing, growth, and strength to overcome. They have been there and have come out on the other side not only victorious, but stronger and wiser…and you can, too.
This is the significance of the pictured broken and restored pottery…a Japanese art form called Kintsugi. When a piece of pottery is broken, they glue it back together with gold infused mortar. Not only does this make the vessel more valuable and stronger than before, but the very cracks of shattered brokenness are the elements that add greater artistic depth and beauty to the piece. I can think of no greater picture of the redemptive work God can and does do with our broken places and challenging hurdles than Kintsugi.
Isaiah 2:4 is a powerful passage of scripture which says in God’s Kingdom, swords will be beaten into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Likewise, our goal in coaching or counseling will be to take your challenges that are acting as weapons of hindrance or harm and turn them into tools that will serve you in fruitfulness, growth, strength, capacity, endurance, and resilience. In doing so, we embody another passage below in Isaiah which refers to God exchanging our ashes for a garland of beauty and victory. We are Kintsugi in God’s loving hands.
“…to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor.” Isaiah 61:3
In counseling and coaching, I take a holistic approach. We are integrated, multifaceted beings, comprised of mind, body, heart, and soul. What is affecting us physically will affect us emotionally. What is affecting us emotionally will affect us spiritually. What is affecting us spiritually will affect us mentally. Because those beautiful facets of our being are all interconnected, one can affect all the others in a multitude of ways. As compassionate and curious detectives, we will examine the whole of who you are so as not to miss the roots of the challenge you are facing and bring you to a place of greater and more comprehensive healing and growth. Even if the challenge is external, there is always the internal, personal work of how you are able to cope, make good decisions, build capacity, and respond in healthy ways for your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being and growth.
Above all, I believe that because we are all created by God in His image, He alone is our ultimate wise Counselor and Comforter. He knows us better than we know ourselves. There is much therapy out there that “darkens counsel by words without knowledge.” Whether we are seeking to navigate pain and loss in Biblical Counseling or seeking to navigate common hurdles or decisions in Life Coaching, I rely on prayer and on God’s Word for wisdom and guidance as we seek to foster the development of the mind of Christ, the fruit of the Spirit, spiritual and relational maturity, self-regulation, new neural pathways in the brain, and personal and interpersonal renewal. Even if you do not identify as a Christian believer, you are still welcome and will not be asked to do anything contrary to your beliefs, however, Redeem still adheres to a Christian worldview and Biblical lens which informs the counsel, knowing that much wisdom, guidance, and comfort can be gleaned from scriptural principles when and where applicable.
Good counsel is not just about comfort but about capacity to endure for the joy set before us. Healing is more than just fixing what’s broken, more than just avoiding pain. It’s a journey of becoming, of stepping into the person God is calling you to be. He uses our challenges and wounds to shape us, refine us, and lead us toward greater maturity and deeper purpose. We don’t rush the process, nor do we remain stuck in the same place. We embrace the journey…every step, every tear, every moment of grace is leading you to wholeness. If you are on the road of suffering or simply facing a particular challenge right now, remember that suffering graduates the deepest scholars and challenges can build mental, emotional, and spiritual muscles. It is all working to build a resilience, purpose, and beauty in you that is obtained no other way.
I conduct 50-minute sessions via Google Meet or phone. Growth Groups are typically 75 minutes, once per week, for a designated number of weeks depending on the group. I work with youth 12 and up with parental consent for minors. I work individually with women of all ages and young men 12-25, however, all men are welcome in appropriate Growth Groups as well as in couples coaching/counseling. Check out Redeem Services to learn about the difference between Biblical Counseling, Christian Life Coaching, and Growth Groups. Book your first session to see if I am a good fit to walk with you through this stage of your journey. Together, we will discover how God can Redeem those challenging places!

Life Coaching
While traditional therapy is like archeology, digging for clues in the past, life coaching is like architecture, drawing up plans in a way that can be followed in the present to achieve building or rebuilding as you look to the future. You are the expert “artist” while the coach comes alongside to assist with the necessary “measurements” & construction tips to make your vision a reality. This may relate to career, education, parenting, relationships, big decisions, etc. Life coaching from a Christian perspective navigates the various building processes of your life as you seek God’s purpose and plan for you.

Biblical Counseling
Biblical counseling uses scripture and prayer, in conjunction with sound doctrine and well-researched neuroscience and psychology, to overcome particular challenges, wounds, or patterns of thinking that need to be transformed from weapons of harm into tools of fruitfulness, growth, resilience, and strength. Unlike traditional therapy, we will not be making any diagnoses, however, we will consider the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—so if a challenge appears to be more hormonal than spiritual, I will suggest expert referrals or tests while continuing the holistic, integrative work with soul care.

Growth Groups
Growth Groups provide a safe but transformative space for you to explore and process specific life challenges and receive coaching alongside others, whether it be divorce recovery & rebuilding, navigating chronic illness or disability, support for foster care & adoptive families, caregivers support, estrangement, ministry leadership support, faith crises, soul care, or more. Meeting virtually, you will learn relevant skills, be equipped with useful tools, find encouragement, and build resilience with new friends from all over the globe…groups are 5-12 people and meet anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks.
Life Coaching & Biblical Counseling… What They Are and Are Not
Coaching is:
• A partnership centered around the exchange of ideas, encouragement, and accountability
• A way to make progress toward the client's greater fulfillment in life by both identifying and strategizing the attainment of goals
• Focused on goals identified by the client, not the coach
• The client sets the agenda by choosing the bullseye while the coach keeps the arrow pointed in the right direction
• The coach helps the client articulate the needs and decide best course of action by asking good questions and suggesting effective tools and strategies from which the client can choose
Christian Coaching is:
• A coaching relationship in which a client's Christian faith is included in the coaching sessions
• An opportunity to explore goals and goal attainment within the context of the client's Christian belief system
• A holistic approach in which a client's faith and spiritual guidance is included and utilized in their plans
Coaching is not:
• Treatment for any mental health, substance abuse, or psychological disorder
• A substitute for legal or medical advice
• A relationship in which the coach "fixes" the client's problems
• A guarantee of desired outcomes within the client's life
Biblical Counseling is:
• Christ-centered – Rooted in the person and work of Jesus Christ as the ultimate source of hope, healing, and change.
• Scripture-based – Uses the Bible as the standard basis and authoritative guide for understanding people and addressing life’s problems.
• Heart-focused – Goes beyond surface behaviors to address underlying thoughts, motives, and desires.
• Sanctification-oriented – Aims to help people grow in Christlikeness through obedience, faith, repentance, and soul care.
• Practical and relational – Applies biblical truth to real-life struggles in ways that are personal, compassionate, and wise.
• Community-connected – Often takes place within the context of the local church, involving prayer, accountability, and mutual care.
• Dependent on the Holy Spirit – Relies on God’s power for real heart change rather than just human effort.
• Hope-giving – Points clients toward God’s promises and grace, even in suffering and hardship.
Biblical Counseling is not:
• Not secular psychology – While it will incorporate known and reliable psychology and neuroscience, it doesn't use humanistic theories or methods contrary to Scripture.
• Not a Bible study – It’s not about throwing untimely Bible verses at pain, questions, or challenges and calling it good. It is not a legalistic Bible study to the exclusion of science.
• Not just behavior modification - It's not just about fixing outward actions without addressing the heart.
• Not a “Jesus band aid” – While it does apply God’s Word to our circumstances as appropriate, it's not simply sharing opinions or personal experiences with Jesus in a way that ignores the depth and complexity of the human soul.
• Not a quick fix - It acknowledges that lasting change often takes time, patience, prayer, grit, and God's ongoing work.
• Not clinical therapy - It doesn't solely rely on diagnostic categories or medical models of mental illness (though it may work alongside medical or psychiatric care when appropriate).
• Not only for crises - It's not just for "serious problems," but for everyday struggles, growth, decisions, change, and discipleship.
• Not detached or impersonal - It's deeply relational, involving love, compassion, and walking alongside others.
• Not self-help - It doesn't point people inward for solutions but upward to God and His Word.

There is a painful contagion plaguing our culture, that of cutting off parents, partially or fully, if there is misunderstanding, differences, or disagreement in the name of “boundaries”, of avoiding the uncomfortable work of healthy relational communication and maintenance in the name of “safe spaces”. Left behind in the wake of this oftentimes ill-informed counsel is the wreckage of blindsided, broken-hearted, confused, grieving and gutted mothers and fathers, broken families, and siblings caught in the middle. How do we navigate the questions and confusion? How do we heal from the terrible loss and rejection of the child we love so deeply and with whom we long for relationship? And how do we respond with limited or no contact? With some honest soul searching, finding freedom in forgiveness, and seeking wisdom in godly responses, you will find you are not alone in this painful epidemic. If you are an adult child whose parents have cut you off, God sees you, too. Please contact me for individual counseling and let me know if you’d like to see a Growth Group for you as well.
Dates: 12 weeks, 1/12/26-3/30/26

Discovering you are not alone
Embodies 1 Thes. 5:11 “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up…”
Growth Groups are so enriching and deep, and it is a beautiful thing to catch a vision in this space for how God redeems our challenging places to build each other up. It is easy for us to get discouraged when we hit a plateau or get stuck in our own negative thinking. But over and over I’ve seen the synergy of a group enable people to move forward at a deeper and faster rate as they hold each other accountable, sharing with and encouraging each other. Proverbs 27 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another”. This is seen so beautifully in Growth Groups…not only are you receiving insight, tools, and encouragement from a variety of perspectives and experiences, but you might just find you are also able to give this to others in similar circumstances. As we carry each other’s burdens, we will discover that we are not alone on this journey and that God provides what we need to navigate our particular challenges. He is a God of redemption and has a purpose for all of us in the body of Christ.
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together… but encouraging one another…” Hebrews 10:24-25
“Wholeness is a lifelong pursuit. Sometimes we pursue it with steady and strong determination, other times we limp…It is not doled out only to the blessed, and it is not achieved quickly by anyone. So as you move in this positive direction, be aware that you will at times excel; at other times you will grope. But instead of feeling discouraged, take comfort in the fact that you are, at least, groping in the right direction.” G.K. Chesterton
